WHO

Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley

WHAT

Mayor Neeley is fighting to expedite settlement payments for Flint residents affected by the water crisis.

Nearly a decade after the start of the Flint Water Crisis, the city has completed replacement of all known lead service lines—officially closing one of the most painful chapters in American public health history. But as Mayor Neeley emphasizes, justice isn’t complete until residents receive the settlement payments they were promised. He is calling on the court to move faster so funds are disbursed without further delay, ensuring families finally receive the closure they deserve.

Mayor Sheldon Neeley will be in NY week of Oct 27 and available for interviews.

Progress & context: a story of resilience and renewal

  • Flint’s water is now among the cleanest and most tested in Michigan—containing less lead than bottled water—thanks to years of accountability, federal partnership, and community persistence.
  • Violent crime is down over 5% (The Detroit News, Oct. 6).
  • The State of Michigan has awarded $1.5 million to first responders.
  • New housing, construction, and investments are reshaping neighborhoods as families move back to Flint; the state also approved a new school-aid budget infusing roughly $10,000 per pupil into the school system.

The story here is one of justice, leadership, and the power of collective healing—and why accelerating settlement payments is the final step toward true recovery.
